Our story

Putting African languages online — properly.

Bantu Plaza is an online language school dedicated to African mother tongues — Setswana, Zulu, Xhosa, Sesotho and Kalanga — taught one-on-one over live video by native speakers. We exist to help heritage learners reconnect with their families, give curious travellers more than tourist phrases, and make a real living possible for African tutors at home.

Founded in Botswana. Bantu Plaza was founded and is operated from Mochudi, Botswana — and only Botswana. We are not headquartered, registered or incorporated in any other country.

Our mission

Make it as easy to learn Setswana, Zulu or Kalanga as it is to learn Spanish — and to make a real living teaching them. We pay tutors fairly, build tools that respect cultural context, and design every detail with learners and tutors together.

Built with the community

Our founding tutors are shaping the platform with us — from how we price lessons, to how we showcase culture, to how we handle payouts across African banking rails and Mobile Money networks.

Why we're building this
Language is how we keep stories, songs and grandparents close.

Our job is to make every conversation feel like that — not like another lesson on a screen.
