Code of Conduct
Bantu Plaza is built on respect — for languages, cultures and people. Everyone on the Platform — students, tutors, parents / guardians and staff — is expected to behave accordingly.
What we expect from everyone
- Be punctual and prepared. Cancel in good time if something comes up.
- Be kind. Harassment, discrimination, hate speech, intimidation and impersonation are not tolerated.
- Keep things lawful. Conduct that may amount to an offence under the Cybercrime and Computer Related Crimes Act, 2018 is grounds for immediate removal and may be reported to the Botswana Police Service.
- Respect privacy. Do not record or distribute a lesson without the express consent of every participant.
- Respect intellectual property. Lesson materials remain the property of the tutor unless otherwise agreed.
For tutors
Show up on time, deliver the lesson you agreed to deliver, and communicate clearly. Profiles must be honest — fake credentials or experience are grounds for removal.
For tutors who teach learners under 18 (“Kids welcome”)
Teaching a child is a position of trust. Tutors who opt in to “Kids welcome” agree to additional rules:
- You must be 21 years of age or older.
- Communicate only on Bantu Plaza, only with the parent / guardian who holds the account. Do not contact the minor learner directly through any channel (email, phone, social media, messaging apps), and do not share or solicit personal contact details.
- Do not arrange to meet the minor learner in person.
- Keep lesson materials age-appropriate. If the parent / guardian requests changes to scope, accommodate or refer the lesson back.
- Lesson video is on Jitsi by default. Always open the lesson through Bantu Plaza’s lesson page (the “Join video call” button from your dashboard, which goes to
/lesson/<id>/) — do not paste the raw Jitsi URL into your browser, because that bypasses the safeguarding recording. - Allow recording when prompted. Every lesson for a minor is recorded automatically by Bantu Plaza when you click “Start recording” on the lesson page and grant your browser’s screen-share permission (choose the lesson tab, with “Share tab audio” ticked). Lessons where recording fails to start are flagged for admin review and may put your “Kids welcome” status under review.
- If you witness or suspect anything that puts the child at risk — including grooming attempts, distressed behaviour, or content that may amount to child sexual abuse material — stop the lesson immediately and email info@bantuplaza.com with the booking reference. Bantu Plaza will preserve the recording, freeze the 30-day auto-delete on that lesson, and, where credible, refer the matter (with the recording, if relevant) to the Botswana Police Service’s Child Protection Unit.
Breach of these rules is grounds for immediate removal of the “Kids welcome” badge and may be grounds for account termination.
For students
Treat tutors as professionals. Give honest reviews based on the lesson, not unrelated frustration. Pay on time.
For parents and legal guardians
You are the account holder and the contact point for your child’s lessons. Please:
- Be present, in the room or within earshot, when your child is having a lesson — especially the first few with a new tutor.
- Use only the in-platform booking and messaging routes; do not pass the tutor your child’s personal contact details.
- Every lesson for your child is recorded by Bantu Plaza automatically and held for 30 days. You can watch the recording from your dashboard or request earlier deletion at any time by emailing info@bantuplaza.com with the booking reference.
- If anything feels off — communication style, lesson content, after-lesson contact attempts — pause future bookings and email info@bantuplaza.com with the booking reference. We can freeze the 30-day auto-delete on the relevant recording while we investigate.
Reporting
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this Code, email info@bantuplaza.com. We respond within 48 hours and treat reports confidentially. Reports involving the safety of a minor are prioritised.
