Keeping children safe on Bantu Plaza

This page is for the adult booking on a child’s behalf. On Bantu Plaza, children aged 8–17 can only be booked through a parent or guardian account — this is enforced in how the platform works, not just a policy.

We review the tutors who teach children and we give you tools and a way to report concerns. But because lessons are one-to-one and, by our current policy, not recorded, you are the supervising adult during the lesson. Safety here is shared between us and you. No platform can promise complete safety, and we won’t pretend otherwise.

Who is allowed to teach children

A tutor can only teach under-18s if they carry the “Kids welcome” badge. Here’s exactly what that badge is based on — and what it isn’t.

What we require and enforce:

✓21 or older. We hold each tutor’s date of birth, and the system blocks a Kids-welcome request from anyone under 21.
✓Granted by our team, never automatic. The badge cannot switch on by itself — a team member must set it, and we can remove it at any time.
✓A parent or guardian always books and is the contact. Children can’t book for themselves, and guardian accounts only see and book Kids-welcome tutors.
✓Contact stays on-platform. Messages about a child’s lesson are routed to the guardian, and booking and messaging happen through Bantu Plaza.

What the tutor agrees to (but we can’t independently verify):

•The tutor declares they have no record of any offence against a child. This is a statement they make and agree to — it is a self-declaration, not something we have independently checked.
•The tutor agrees to provide a police-clearance certificate if we ask. We may request one; we do not collect or run a background check as standard.

To be clear: we do not currently run a police or criminal-background check on Kids-welcome tutors. Please don’t treat the badge as one. It means the tutor met our age and review requirements and agreed to our child-safety declaration.

Your role: the present, supervising adult

Because lessons are one-to-one and not recorded, Bantu Plaza isn’t watching the session live. The responsibility for supervising your child during the lesson sits with you. A few simple things make a real difference:

✓Hold the lesson in a shared or family space, and keep the device where you can see it.
✓Say hello to the tutor at the start of the first lesson so you know who’s teaching.
✓Agree that lessons stay on language learning, and stay nearby.
✓Keep all contact and booking on Bantu Plaza — that’s where the record lives.

Why lessons aren’t recorded

As a matter of current policy, Bantu Plaza does not record lessons — for children or adults. This means we don’t hold video of your child’s sessions, and it’s another reason your presence during the lesson matters: you are the adult in the room.

We’re being precise here: this is our policy today, not something the platform can never do. If we ever introduce recording for children’s lessons, we would only do so with your explicit consent and clear limits on how long anything is kept.

Report a concern

If something worries you

Please tell us straight away if a tutor ever asks to move to private contact, asks your child for personal information, requests an unsupervised or off-platform session, or does anything that concerns you.

3.You can stop booking a tutor at any time. Ask us and we’ll help you remove or block a tutor from your account, and we’ll review whether they should stay on the platform.

For urgent child-protection advice, you can also contact a child-protection helpline or the police in your country. In the UK, the NSPCC (nspcc.org.uk) offers guidance; other countries have their own equivalents.

What we collect about your child

We collect the minimum we need to run a lesson. A child’s information is tied to your guardian account — you register with your own email, flag the child account, and remain the account holder and point of contact for your child. We don’t share your child’s data unnecessarily, and we keep it only as long as we need it.

An honest word on limits

We review the tutors who teach children, we keep contact on-platform, and we act on reports. But no platform can promise a child is completely safe. What we can do is be clear about what we check, honest about what we don’t, and give you the tools and the responsibility to supervise your child’s lesson.
